TALLAHASSEE - Florida Insurance Commissioner Kevin McCarty says his office and the Hartford Financial Services Group will refund or issue credits totaling more than $48 million to Florida businesses.
The money is from excess profit earned by Hartford on its workers' compensation policies for accidents in 2004, 2005 and 2006, McCarty said Wednesday.
He said Hartford must provide refunds or renewal credits within 60 days and provide documentation of its compliance. The company must also certify that it has attempted to locate all policyholders whose refund checks are returned. If they are unable to locate those policyholders, those refunds must be processed as unclaimed or abandoned property.
