TAMPA - Gov. Charlie Crist on Friday named former Walter Industries executive Don DeFosset to the Tampa Sports Authority for a term ending July 1, 2013.
DeFosset, 60, of Tampa, replaces Mark Proctor, who finished his second four-year term this month. The governor appoints one of the 11 members on the sports authority. The other members are appointed equally by the Hillsborough County Commission and mayor of Tampa.
DeFosset became president and chief executive officer of Walter Industries in November 2000. Among the company's businesses are homebuilding and coal mining. He announced his retirement in 2005.
Before heading Walter, DeFosset spent 29 years in heavy industry, including a job as chief operating officer at Dura Automotive Systems Inc., a $2.6 billion automotive components manufacturer. Before that, he was executive vice president and Truck Group president with Navistar International Corp.
The Tampa Sports Authority manages Raymond James Stadium and three city golf courses in Tampa.
