Manatee County sheriff's deputies continue to look for two men they say attacked a pizza delivery man late Sunday night by spraying him in the face with a can of aerosol disinfectant and robbing him of sodas and chicken wings.
Hungry Howie's employee Dean Lantz, however, prevented the men from taking pizzas, deputies say.
Deputies give this account of what happened about 11:15 p.m. Sunday at 1211 72nd St. Court E. in Rubonia:
The two men called Hungry Howie's from a pay phone and ordered $43.73 worth of food. Lantz drove to the location but couldn't find the address given by the caller.
The address was fake.
As Lantz walked around searching for the customers, two men ran toward him, and one sprayed him in the face with the disinfectant. The men tried to grab a bag containing the pizza, but couldn't.
Lantz, 64, was hit on the head with an unknown object, and he fell to the ground, dropping the pizza bag. The robbers ran away with two 2-liters of soda and an order of chicken wings.
