TAMPA - The Tampa Port Authority on Tuesday OK'd a $150,000 request by Tampa Historic Streetcar for fiscal 2009-10 by a 4-3 vote.
Proponents on the port authority board emphasized the trolley's contributions to ambience, tourism and convention center, along with benefits to commercial business tenants who lease land from the port along the trolley line in the Channelside Bay Plaza area.
Opponents wanted data that might show direct financial benefits to the port authority.
Tampa Mayor Pam Iorio, Hillsborough County Commissioner Rose Ferlita, Carl Lindell and William Brown voted for the $150,000 allocation, while Brian Dolan, Stephen Swindal and Larry Shipp voted against it.
The majority of the trolley's funding comes from fares, assessments from area businesses, an endowment and other sources.
