Chances are, if you were driving in Hillsborough County on Wednesday, you saw a school bus.
A fleet of buses - about 1,100 strong - was cruising the streets as Hillsborough school bus drivers made a dry run of their routes, hoping to avoid a repeat of last year's rocky start.
Last August, scores of parents complained that they were lacking information regarding bus routes and times. Some children were left waiting at bus stops for more than an hour.
The goal of the test run, said school officials, was for drivers to know their routes before school starts Monday.
"Drivers are practicing the run under our supervision so we have a clear picture of what's taking place," school transportation director John Franklin said.
Pasco and Pinellas counties also are doing dry runs of their transportation systems before school starts.
Pasco will run 400 buses today in advance of school starting Monday.
Pinellas will have a test run of its 500-bus system Monday. Its schools open Tuesday.
