JACKSONVILLE - A 21-year-old man is the sixth person to die from police gunfire in Jacksonvlle this year.
Police say Antonio Devel Kendrick was armed and running from the scene of a robbery early Saturday. Chief Rick Graham of the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office says Kendrick refused to drop his gun
as he ran from officers.
Kendrick was among five men who allegedly robbed and pistol-whipped a man.
Officer Everhart Avinger fired at the suspect multiple times. Kendrick was pronounced dead at a hospital.
Chief Graham says Avinger was recently cleared in a fatal shooting at an apartment complex in November.
The four other men in the group are being held on robbery and homicide charges. They also could face charges in Kendrick's death.
