JACKSONVILLE—Even Tampa Bay's few veterans are dazzled by Sammie Stroughter.
The seventh-round WR out of Oregon State showcased his versatile skills in Saturday night's 24-23 preseason triumph against the Jaguars, setting up one TD with a 75-yard kickoff return and scoring himself six minutes later on a 9-yard pass thrown by Luke McCown.
"He's just a football player,'' Bucs CB Ronde Barber said of Stroughter, the 233rd player selected in the April draft. "We've seen it all camp. He's a gamer and he's got the intangibles that all good football players have.''
Stroughter shrugged off the accolades.
"I just try to put my best foot forward—that's all I can do,'' said Stroughter, a lock to make Tampa Bay's final 53-man roster.
"Stroughter's no surprise to me,'' said rookie QB Josh Freeman, who also played well. "We've shared a room during training camp and he's definitely a driven guy.''
