A former NBA referee who was convicted of gambling on professional basketball games was arrested Monday afternoon by the United States Marshal's Office, according to Hillsborough County Jail records.
Tim Donaghy, of Bradenton, was charged with a federal rule violation. Jail records show he was arrested on a charge of violation of probation but does not specify what kind of violation.
Donaghy, who even bet on games in which he officiated, pleaded guilty in 2007 to charges of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and transferring betting information in violation of interstate commerce regulations. He was sentenced in November 2007 to 15 months.
In June, he left a federal prison in Pensacola to serve the rest of his 15-month sentence at a halfway house in Tampa.
He is being held at Orient Road Jail. No bail has been set.
