TALLAHASSEE - Buddy Strauss, who held Florida State's single-season rushing record for 23 years, has died.
Strauss died Sunday from a heart attack. He was 84. His death was confirmed by a funeral home.
Strauss ran for 747 yards in 1949, a mark that stood until Hodges Mitchell gained 944 yards in 1972. Strauss' 161 yards against Mississippi College in 1949 was a Seminole mark until Larry Key's 170-yard performance against Auburn 28 years later.
Strauss, who also led the team in tackles from his defensive end position, was enshrined in the Florida State University Hall of Fame in 1980.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, June, and six children.
