SPRING HILL - A Springstead High student was accused today of making and possessing an explosive device on a school bus, the Hernando County Sheriff's Office said.
Gunnar Arnold Gundersen IV, 16, of Spring Hill admitted to sheriff's detectives that he mixed bleach and rubbing alcohol into a water bottle as he sat in the rear seat of the school bus at 7:15 a.m. today, officials said.
Gunnar allegedly placed a shoe string around the neck of the bottle and placed the bottle outside of the bus window. In about 30 seconds, the chemical exploded, officials said.
One witness said they saw Gunnar mix the chemicals and another saw him place the bottle outside of the window.
The chemicals fell on a hood of a car that was behind the school bus. The driver of the car said the chemical got in her eyes, according to the sheriff's office. She said she will not pursue criminal charges.
Gundersen has been charged with making and possessing an explosive device, officials said.
