The tragic death of Cpl. Mike Roberts last week has had a major impact on many in the locale where Mike patrolled, and in particular, an outdoor roller hockey rink in Tampa.
Mike would come to the rink at Florida Avenue and Broad Street and play with a police league team in preparation for tournaments they would frequent. "Mikey" was not only a friendly face, but also a good hockey player and an excellent sportsman. I remember playing against Mike and wondering how I was going to take the puck away from him.
Aside from his wife and children, the other participants in a police officer's life also benefit from his company. We at the "GHL" wish Mikey R.I.P., and we shall renew our hockey competition in heaven.
