After gleefully jumping out of bed at 6 a.m. to begin fall classes at the University of South Florida, I was bombarded more with professors discussing swine flu than class objectives.
Unfortunately, these weren't simple common-sense discussions such as saying stay home if you're sick. These were frightening, heart-stopping warnings making it clear swine flu could kill you.
Now that woke me up.
Of course, few mention, at school or news stations, that rarely do people die from this condition, especially students in college who are generally in good health. Also, a vaccine for swine flu is due out in October. Yep, didn't hear much about that, either.
Instead, I've heard reports predict how many people would likely die. I wonder why I haven't been sleeping too well.
Obviously, if someone is sneezing and coughing the smart thing to do is not go over and give them a hug. Still, let's not freak out or make things seem worse than they really are.
