HOLIDAY - A 31-year-old former treasurer of the Beacon Square Civic Association was arrested Wednesday, accused of swindling nearly $10,500 from the organization's coffers.
Mandy Leigh Fletcher, 2436 Nash St., Clearwater, is accused of not making several cash deposits between January and May 19 of this year, pocketing the money instead.
Fletcher admitted to stealing $1,000 from the civic association, her arrest affidavit states.
The civic association has between 130 and 260 homes in its membership annually, according to its September newsletter. Beacon Square encompasses about 4,000 homes west of U.S. 19 near Moog Road.
Fletcher was booked into the Land O' Lakes Jail on a grand theft charge and released Thursday after posting $5,000 bail.
