A babysitter forgot that the child she was watching was in the back seat of her car when she went shopping, the Manatee County Sheriff's Office said.

According to a report, 31-year-old Marlin Lovely of Bradenton was watching her friend's 3-year-old daughter and decided to take her to Desoto Square Mall.

On the way to the mall, to help quiet the child who became fussy, Lovely turned on the car radio, the report said. Lovely, who noticed the child had fallen asleep while she was stopped at a traffic light on Cortez and 14th Street West, continued on her way.

After some time, Lovely forgot the child was in the car, deputies said. She parked near Macy's and entered the mall to do some shopping.

A concerned passer-by saw the child inside the car crying and called mall security who then called 911, the report said.

When EMS and Fire Rescue noticed the child appeared to be in distress when they arrived on the scene. They broke out the back window of the car and removed the child, the report said.

Deputies found a phone number for Lovely in her vehicle and contacted her.

Lovely said she forgot that the child was with her and did not intentionally leave her in the car.
She also said she had been in the mall for 30 minutes before receiving the call from authorities, the report said.

The child was taken to Manatee Memorial Hospital, treated for dehydration and released to her mother. Lovely was arrested on child neglect charges, deputies said.
