Brandon coach John Lima said his focus for this season is on pushing his team to finish games. On Friday, the Eagles struggled to take advantage in the middle of the game but rallied, scoring 21 unanswered points to defeat Riverview.
"What I didn't know was if we could win in the fourth quarter," Lima said. "We challenged this team in the offseason, telling them they had to be fourth-quarter hard, and tonight we made it happen."
The Eagles started strong, as Darius Lee's 41-yard run on the first play from scrimmage set up quarterback Josh Celerina's 10-yard touchdown run.
The Sharks scored three unanswered touchdowns, as Terrence Carter scored on a 3-yard run and Jarid Heffers found David Ray for a 17-yard TD pass in the second quarter. Heffers also scored on a 1-yard keeper in the third quarter for an 18-7 lead.
Late in the third quarter the Eagles came bounding back behind their offense and special teams. After recovering a muffed punt, Celerin hit Sean Watson for a 27-yard TD. The Eagles then picked up a safety on a snap out of the back of the end zone, and Lee added a 24-yard touchdown run to give the Eagles the lead.
