Published: August 29, 2009

RUSKIN - In a matchup of neighboring South Shore teams, Lennard recovered four of East Bay's six fumbles, returning one for a touchdown and using another to set up a 2-yard rushing score as the Longhorns beat the visiting Indians.

Lennard junior Tevin Abney was a playmaker on both sides of the ball, giving his Longhorns the lead on a 2-yard run in the second quarter and scoring on a 70-yard fumble recovery in the third. On the play, the fumbled handoff fell right into Abney's hands and he hurdled a defender and sprinted into the open field for the score.

Abney also rushed 14 times for 57 yards and the touchdown. Facing his former team, Lennard junior quarterback Eric Porter completed three of nine passes for 54 yards.

Plagued by penalties and fumbles, East Bay's offense failed to get into a rhythm. East Bay finished with 45 yards in penalties, most for delay of game or false starts. Reddick was the leading rusher with 55 yards on nine carries, while fullback Josh Hudson added 41 yards on 10 carries. East Bay had a chance to tie it in the second quarter when D.J. Richmond broke free for a 63-yard run, but the touchdown was called back because of an illegal block.

Forrest Meredith put East Bay on the board with a 42-yard field goal before halftime.

East Bay 0 3 0 0 — 3
Lennard 0 7 7 0 — 14
L — Abney 2 run (Peterson kick)
E — FG Peterson 42
L — Abney 70 fumble return (Peterson kick)
