OCALA - St. John's Lutheran quarterback Ryan Roach threw a 13-yard touchdown pass and intercepted a pass and returned it 42 yards for a score to give St. John's a 28-14 victory against Bishop McLaughlin on Friday night in a Kickoff Classic at Ocala Brick City Adventure Park.
Bishop McLaughlin had 70 yards in penalties and only gained 71 yards rushing for the game.
Hurricanes quarterback Mitch Ritter scored the first touchdown on a 14-yard run. Tiger Williams kicked the extra point, which tied the game at 7 with 1:02 left in the first quarter.
Running back Giovanni Perone scored the final Hurricanes touchdown on a 15-yard run with 10:05 left in the fourth quarter. Perone gained 61 yards on the 13-play, 60-yard drive.
Bishop McLaughlin fumbled three times, losing two.
The Hurricanes had a 6-4 record last year.
Bishop McLaughlin will open its season Friday night, playing Bradenton Christian in Bradenton.
