TAMPA - Senior running back Ben Sams rushed for two touchdowns to lead St. Petersburg past Robinson in a Kickoff Classic on Friday night.
Sams started off with a 9-yard run on his first carry and was strong the rest of the way. His TDs came on runs of 7 and 26 yards.
Robinson was hurt on a fumble on their second offensive play of the game. Quarterback Blake Rice was under pressure much of the game.
Robinson scored first when it had a 1-yard swing pass turned into a nifty play by wide receiver Frankie Williams for a 51-yard TD catch.
Green Devils coach Joe Fabrizio lit a fire under his team at halftime as they scored 22 points in the third quarter, and 29 unanswered points in the second half.
The halfback option trick play broke the game open for the Devils and the 2-point conversion run by Sams gave St. Petersburg a 15-7 lead.
"I have to give a lot of credit to defensive lineman Rashid Mizell, who had two sacks in the game and looked like a man possessed," Fabrizio said.
The last play of the game was a 6-yard TD run which came after a helmet-to-helmet penalty on the Devils the play before.
