TAMPA - The Lightning re-signed restricted free-agent defenseman Matt Lashoff to a two-year contract, the team announced Friday. The first year of the contract is a two-way deal, the second year a one-way deal. Financial terms were not available.
Lashoff, who turn 23 on Sept. 29, was a first-round pick of the Boston Bruins in 2005. He was acquired by the Lightning from Boston at last season's trade deadline.
The 6-foot-2, 205-pound native of East Greenbush, N.Y., had seven assists in 12 games with Tampa Bay last season after registering a goal and seven assists in 46 games with Boston over three seasons.
With Lashoff under contract, defenseman Mike Lundin is the Lightning's lone remaining restricted free agent to be signed.
Meanwhile, reports out of Europe on Friday suggested forward Radek Smolenak could return to the organization.
Smolenak, who had 24 goals and 49 points in 71 games with AHL Norfolk last season, signed a contract to play in Russia this summer, but he was cut Thursday. Smolenak, 22, appeared in six games last season with the Lightning.
