VALRICO - Senior Malik Williams ran for a touchdown in the third quarter and had an interception in the fourth as Wharton came from behind to defeat Bloomingdale at Charley Harris Stadium.
Bloomingdale recovered two Wharton fumbles and blocked two field-goal attempts. But it was a Bulls fumble on their 17 that set Wharton up for the winning points. Williams ran 11 yards for the touchdown with no time left in the third to tie it at 13. Wharton went for two, and Shane McEwen (20 carries, 69 yards) bulled in for the final margin.
The Bulls held Wharton on first-and-goal and blocked a field-goal try with 5:33 left, but Williams picked off a pass one minute later.
Eugene Perry threw for one score and ran for another in the first half for Bloomingdale. Perry hit Sean Tate for 61 yards to set up an 8-yard TD pass to Chris Herald with 2:11 left in the first. Perry ran 67 yards for a score 2:04 into the second for a 13-0 lead. Perry finished with 103 yards on 14 carries and 87 yards passing.
Ryan Hatter connected with Xavier Fisher for a 27-yard score and was 6 of 11 for 86 yards. Tanner Stocker was 3-for-4 and had a 19-yard run, and Deandre Mills ran seven times for 61 yards. Wharton's defense allowed 19 yards in the second half.
