Hints to avoid the long wait at DMV offices

On Friday, Hillsborough County Tax Collector Doug Belden said wait times were averaging more than an hour, after averaging less than 15 minutes for eight years. At one point, there were more than 200 people waiting in the tax collector's Brandon and West County offices.

To avoid long lines or waits:

• Check approximate wait times before heading to a tax collector's office by using the "Locations" tab at www.hillstax.org.

• Use the tax collector's North Tampa office in the Floriland Business Center at 9309 N. Florida Ave.

• Use the online renewal service at www.hillstax.org.

• Use the drop boxes located outside all tax collector offices.

Belden said transactions completed prior to close of business today will be processed at the lower rate.
