5 PLAYERS TO WATCH
Gabby Fernandez, Bayshore Christian, junior, outside hitter: Bayshore Christian coach Melanie Humenansky called Fernandez, who led Hillsborough County with 402 kills last season, the best Class 1A player in the state. She might be right.
Maddie Martin, Plant, senior, outside hitter: An ankle injury sidelined the Penn State commit for most of last season, but she still contributed 198 kills, 47 aces and 25 blocks.
Ali McCurdy, Plant, senior, libero: McCurdy, who has verbally committed to Duke, led the Panthers' defense last season with 454 digs.
Lindsey Watson, Brandon, junior, setter/right outside hitter: She led the Eagles in 2008 with 193 kills, 177 aces and 304 digs.
Lindsay Young, Berkeley Prep, senior, middle hitter: She committed to Colgate before the season and helped Berkeley reach the 3A state championship in 2008 with 242 kills and 57 blocks.
