TAMPA - Because of a rash of arsons that have been plaguing the V.M. Ybor neighborhood, Tampa Fire Rescue has created a link on its Web site for anonymous tipsters.

Visitors to www.tampagov.net/fire can complete an electronic form to report information to arson task force investigators, then return later to check the status of the tip.

The Web page also allows investigators to post questions to the tipster while the person maintains anonymity.

For those who don't have Internet access, tips also can be called in to the Tampa Fire Marshal's Office at (813) 274-7133.

In the past year, 18 fires have damaged 14 homes in the neighborhood north of Interstate 4. There have been no deaths or injuries, but investigators say the blazes have caused about $400,000 in damage. Two of the fires occurred this week. Of the fires set, 14 damaged vacant or abandoned homes and four involved occupied homes.
