A 21-year-old Plant City man was arrested Saturday night, accused of attacking a person with a baseball bat after an argument over a battery turned violent, according to a criminal arrest affidavit.
Gregory General Sykes, of 906 S. Tyler St., was arrested by Plant City police about 12:50 a.m. Sunday and charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.
Sykes and the victim were arguing over a battery when Sykes took a baseball bat and struck the person several times in the head, face and left arm. Police say the attack happened about 11:50 p.m.
Saturday at North Poplar Court in Plant City.
The victim, whose name was not listed on the affidavit, had gashes to the head, a swollen face and possibly a broken arm, police say. Sykes told police that he hit the person with the bat because he was defending himself.
Police say that Sykes had no visible injuries.
Sykes was being held Sunday night at Orient Road Jail on $7,500 bail.
