All lanes of Gulf to Bay Boulevard in Clearwater have been opened after being closed for about four hours as authorities investigated a crash involving a police officer.

Clearwater police officer Steve White was taken by ambulance to Bayfront Medical Center with what appears to be a concussion, Clearwater police and fire spokeswoman Elizabeth Watts said in a written statement.

Three teens in a 1998 Toyota Camry involved in the crash were taken to Morton Plant Hospital. None appear to have life-threatening injuries, Watts said. The driver, Bitar Gourgy, 16, and two other passengers are being treated for back and neck pain, authorities say.

A total of five teens ages 15-17 were in the car that collided with White's police cruiser, Watts said.

The two-vehicle crash happened about 5:30 p.m. at Gulf to Bay Boulevard and Pegasus Avenue. White was driving east on Gulf to Bay when Gourgy lost control of the Camry, Watts said. The road was wet at the time of the crash.

The Camry struck the police cruiser almost head-on, Watts said.

Most lanes of Gulf to Bay Boulevard were closed from about 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
