TAMPA - A former Hillsborough County sheriff's deputy arrested in November on a driving under the influence charge violated the agency's code of conduct policies, according to an internal affairs investigation.
Daniel Crotty, 50, resigned from the sheriff's office on Dec. 2, when detectives called him to schedule an administrative interview.
Crotty was driving his personal vehicle west on Bramfield Drive about 2:23 p.m. on Nov. 23 when he veered into the path of another car, according to the internal affairs findings released on Dec. 8.
Crotty's car struck the left rear side of the second car and continued west on Bramfield where he almost hit two pedestrians, detectives say. Crotty's vehicle then hit a small tree, three mailboxes and two trash piles.
Crotty then went into the private driveway of a vacant house on Bramfield Drive where his vehicle struck the metal garage door before coming to a stop, the document states. Crotty then got out of the car and "attempted to gain entry into the garage, via the garage door keypad, with negative results," the report states.
His blood alcohol level was 0.075 and 0.072, detectives say. Florida law presumes impairment with a blood alcohol level of 0.08.
