James Seay's family vigorously defended the 18-year-old last week after his arrest in the shooting of a St. Petersburg undercover officer, but now one of his uncles is in trouble with the law, Gulfport police said.
Carl Seay, 50, was arrested Sunday on charges of domestic battery, false imprisonment and depriving a person of the use of 911, Lt. Robert Vincent said.
Police were dispatched to a 911 hang-up call at 4926 10th Ave. S., and one officer heard a woman inside the home yelling "get off me" and "help me," Vincent said. Officers kicked open the front door.
Seay is accused of hitting his live-in girlfriend in the face, ripping hair extensions from her head and pulling her earrings out. He also threatened to kill her if she left the house, and he pulled the phone cord from the wall while she calling 911, Vincent said.
James Seay is charged in the shooting of an undercover detective after a gas station robbery. The detective survived.
