TALLAHASSEE - A Saturday morning arrest on a DUI charge proved to be a costly third strike for Florida State's Preston Parker.
The junior wide receiver, voted by his coaches as the offensive MVP during the 2007 season, was dismissed from the football team, according to a statement released by FSU on Monday.
"Preston Parker has been dismissed from the Florida State football team due to his latest violation of team policy," Coach Bobby Bowden said.
It was Parker's third arrest since 2006. He was arrested in November of that year after Tallahassee police said he tried to steal a DVD. He entered a diversionary program and the charge was later dismissed.
In May, he pleaded guilty to misdemeanor charges of carrying a concealed weapon and possession of marijuana after he was arrested in Palm Beach Gardens the month before. Parker was placed on 12 months' probation and was ordered by the court to do community service and undergo random drug testing.
He was allowed back on the team under a number of stipulations and penalties handed down by the school that included a two-game suspension. He also underwent random drug testing.
After pleading guilty to misdemeanor charges in May, Parker's Palm Beach attorney, Jason Weiss, said, "It's been made very clear to him, to his family, to me through the university that he's out of chances."
That proved to be the case.
