SEMINOLE - Sophomore Sierra Lelii proved to be in the right spot at the right time for Seminole, which was all too wrong for Lakewood Ranch. The forward scored two goals to spark Seminole's 3-0 victory in the Class 5A-Region 3 semifinals.
The win vaults the Warhawks (15-2-1) to the region final Friday at Palm Harbor University.
With Seminole leading 1-0, Lelii just happened to be in front of the Lakewood Ranch goal. She poked in a loose ball a foot from the goal line for a 2-0 lead.
"The ball was crossing the box and there was a little path open," Lelii said. "So I just stuck my foot out and it went in."
Lelii's second goal, in the second half, clinched the win, thanks to some teamwork with Gina Hayduke on a give-and-go after Lelii began dribbling the ball upfield.
"I passed it to Gina and the goalie came out," Lelii said. "Gina passed it back to me and I hit it in with my left foot."
The ball was kicked in from about 15 yards in front of the goal.
"Her ball control was excellent tonight. She really did her job," Seminole coach Steve Kuplicki said of Lelii.
