A teen suspect in a liquor store robbery rammed his car into an officer's patrol cruiser as he tried to drive away from the scene, Clearwater police said Wednesday.
Angel Castro, 17, was charged with felony aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, reckless driving and retail theft, Clearwater police spokeswoman Elizabeth Watts said in a written statement.
Two other teens were arrested after the 11 a.m. robbery at a Clearwater liquor store at 800 Chestnut Street, Watts said.
As police responded to the robbery call, an officer saw one teen hiding in a bush before running away. The officer got out of his cruiser and chased the teen, who got inside a 2001 black Nissan Pathfinder at 915 Court Street.
A second officer in a marked police car pulled up behind the Nissan and the sport utility vehicle's driver put the Pathfinder in reverse and rammed the front end of the cruiser, Watts said.
The Nissan was pulled over at the intersection of Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue and Court Street. Two bottles of liquor were recovered from the Nissan. No one was hurt during the incident.
