Free Tampa Seminars Offer Low-Income Residents A Leg Up

TAMPA - They're basic skills: Taking care of family, managing money and using a computer.

Starting today, any Tampa Housing Authority resident can attend free workshops that will address these needs, and more.

The Arbors Estates Family Focus Workshop is being hosted by the Rev. Hersey Jackson at The Arbors at Rubin Padgett Estates, a housing authority property in South Tampa. Jackson was appointed by Mayor Pam Iorio to the authority's board in November.

The workshop includes seminars on household needs, public safety, federal housing programs offered by the Department of Housing and Urban Development, financial planning and computer training.

There are two hourlong seminars tonight and Thursday, beginning at 6 p.m., and one two-hour computer session Friday night at 7. The workshop is being held in the family center at the Arbors. A free dinner, prepared by Jackson's wife, will be served each night.
