TAMPA - Al Lopez Park helped kick off Super Bowl weekend Thursday by hosting the Super Tailgate Throwdown.
The three-day event offered visitors an opportunity to savor what Tampa is about. The festival featured a car show, live cooking shows, interactive children zones and performances by Navy bands, rock band Down Jr., Latin reggae artist Neco and singer-songwriter Chantelle DiBrava.
The main theme of the event included barbecue connoisseurs competing for the title of "Super Tailgate Throwdown" and the grand prize of $3,000. The total purse for the barbecue contest was $18,000.
Festivalgoers could also take part in eating contests and VIP parties.
