1 Dead, 1 Injured In Suncoast Parkway Crash

LAND O' LAKES - One driver died and another was seriously hurt Monday afternoon when their vehicles collided on the Suncoast Parkway in Pasco County, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
Maria Valdiva, 70, of Palm Harbor, died at the scene just north of State Road 54, according to the highway patrol. Joseph Cascio, 64, of Spring Hill, was taken to Bayfront Medical Center, where he was listed in serious condition Monday night.
This is what happened on the toll road about 4:51 p.m., according to the highway patrol:
Cascio was driving north through a toll plaza when his 2008 Dodge pickup veered into oncoming traffic and struck Valdiva's 2008 Toyota sport utility vehicle.
The roads were wet from rain.
That portion of the Suncoast Parkway was closed for more than three hours.
An investigation was ongoing.
