LAND O' LAKES - A 2007 study recommended that Pasco County's school impact fee be increased to $8,983 for a single-family residence, but an updated study says that figure should be slightly lower.
The new recommended fee would be $8,606, according to a report given to the Pasco County School Board in preparation for Tuesday's board meeting.
The board approved the updated impact-fee study, but didn't discuss the fee.
The primary reason for the lower recommended fee is decreasing land values, according to a memorandum that accompanied the study.
Either dollar figure is well above the current school impact fee, which is $4,400 for a single-family residence.
Impact fees are charged to residential construction to help pay for capital improvements made necessary by growth.
The school district's updated impact-fee study was prepared by TischlerBise, a Maryland-based consulting firm.
The school board approved a resolution Jan. 22, 2008, asking the Pasco County Commission to raise the impact fee.
The county commission, which is the only government body with authority to approve the impact fee, hasn't yet acted.
