LAND O' LAKES - The Pasco County School Board gave tentative approval Tuesday to attendance boundaries for Watergrass Elementary and Anclote High, two schools opening in August.
The final vote on the boundaries will be Feb. 17, but so far it's been an easy chore for the board because no opposition to the plan has emerged.
Chairman Frank Parker praised the district's planning department, joking that its good work was evident by the "public uproar we have in here."
Anclote High is under construction next to Smith Middle School in Holiday. The high school will draw students from Mitchell High and Gulf High.
Watergrass Elementary is being built in the Watergrass development in Wesley Chapel. That school's students will come from Wesley Chapel Elementary.
Committees of principals, parents and district staff began working on the boundaries in the fall, and proposed maps were sent to parents in December. Meetings were held in January for people affected by the changes.
Chris Williams, the district's planning director, warned school board members that boundary changes might not go as smoothly next year.
The district will be revisiting attendance boundaries for all middle and high schools on the county's west side as it makes plans for construction of a high school at State Road 52 and Chicago Avenue.
That process could start this spring, Williams said.
