The undercover St. Petersburg detective who was shot Jan. 26 while trying to apprehend robbery suspects was released from Bayfront Medical Center on Monday afternoon, St. Petersburg police said.
The detective, whose name is being withheld by The Tampa Tribune due to his undercover status, is recuperating at home from multiple gunshot wounds, St. Petersburg police spokesman Bill Proffitt said in a prepared statement Tuesday afternoon.
Meanwhile, the family of the detective wrote a letter thanking the community for supporting the detective.
It read, in part, "The night the incident occurred, our family witnessed the worst life has to offer and since that time, we have witnessed the best life has to offer."
James Seay, the 18-year-old accused in the shooting, is being held without bail at the Pinellas County Jail on charges of armed robbery and the attempted murder of a law enforcement agent. On Tuesday, Seay asked in court to have bail set but was refused, Proffitt said.
