LARGO - Defending state champion Tampa Prep showed why it is a threat to repeat, beating Indian Rocks Christian 6-0 in a Class 2A-Region 3 semifinal Tuesday.
The game stayed even through the first 19 minutes before Tampa Prep's Paige Goodwin scored. With about six minutes to go in the half, Amber Miller dropped a shot over the Indian Rocks goalkeeper to make it 2-0.
The Terrapins (16-3-2) wasted little time putting the game away in the second half, getting a goal from Taylor Richardson with about six minutes gone. They added two goals by Colby Maffei and another on a direct kick by Goodwin.
"It was a well-played game," Tampa Prep coach Pam Smith said. "We did much better in the second half than we did in the first."
Caroline Cheek had two assists, Richardson two and Goodwin one against the Golden Eagles (14-7).
Tampa Prep kept constant pressure on the Golden Eagles (14-7), outshooting them 21-4.
