A Daytona Beach man was arrested Wednesday in a December crash in Pinellas Park that left one of his passengers dead and which involved a St. Petersburg Times delivery truck.
Desmond King, 22, was charged with, among other things, one count of driving under the influence manslaughter, one count of DUI involving serious bodily injury and two additional counts of DUI involving an injury, court records show.
At 2:50 a.m. Dec. 1, King was driving a 1993 Chevrolet Caprice on U.S. 19 with several passengers in the car when he crossed into the oncoming lane and collided with a Times delivery truck, said Capt. Sanfield Forseth of the Pinellas Park Police Department.
A passenger in the Caprice, Patrick Murphy, was killed, said Forseth. In addition, other passengers in the Caprice, along with the truck driver, were injured.
The reason King was arrested Wednesday is because his blood alcohol tests were returned, Forseth said. King's percentage was 0.096; a driver in Florida is presumed intoxicated if his percentage is 0.08 or above. King's blood also had marijuana in it, Forseth said.
