TAMPA - Former state legislator Les Miller announced today that he will challenge County Commissioner Kevin White for the District 3 seat.
Miller, a Tampa Democrat, served in both the state House and Senate, and was Senate minority leader from 2004-2006. He is married to Tampa City Council member Gwen Miller.
Miller could not be reached for comment, but said in a news release that his track record in government has prepared him well to serve on the seven-member commission.
"Our county is facing tough economic times and with state and federal dollars dwindling, District 3 deserves a commissioner who knows government funding and can fully focus on the task at hand," Miller said in the release.
District 3 was drawn to increase minority influence. It includes most of north and east Tampa, and includes parts of the south and central unincorporated areas of the county.
