TAMPA - A free health fair and Centennial Gospel Extravaganza will take place this weekend as the Hillsborough County branch of the NAACP kicks off the national organization's 100-year anniversary celebration.
Saturday's health fair, from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Mount Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church, 2002 N. Rome Ave., will feature free screenings for HIV, high cholesterol, diabetes and high blood pressure. Parents also can have their children's toys tested for lead at no charge.
From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., lawyers will discuss foreclosures, discrimination and other issues at a free legal redress forum, also at the church.
On Sunday, the gospel event begins at 4 p.m. at Mount Calvary Seventh Day Adventist Church, 4902 40th St.

Another Change In Airport Traffic
Drivers going to Tampa International Airport are adapting again.
A new ramp opened Wednesday morning for motorists northbound on Memorial Highway (westbound State Road 60). Airport-bound drivers now need to exit at Spruce Street.
"For the airport users, that means they have to exit about a quarter-mile sooner than they would have because the Spruce Street exit is a little farther south," Department of Transportation spokesman John McShaffrey said.

Land Values Affect Impact Fee
LAND O' LAKES - A 2007 study recommended that Pasco County's school impact fee be increased to $8,983 for a single-family residence, but an updated study says that figure should be slightly lower.
The new recommended fee would be $8,606, according to a report given to the Pasco County School Board in preparation for Tuesday's board meeting.
The board approved the updated impact-fee study but didn't discuss the fee.
The primary reason for the lower recommended fee is decreasing land values, according to a memorandum that accompanied the study.
Either dollar figure is well above the current school impact fee, which is $4,400 for a single-family residence.
The county commission is the only government body with authority to approve the impact fee.

Tampa Fares Well In City Survey
Tampa shares a place among America's most popular big cities, according to a recent survey by the Pew Research Center.
The city tied with Orlando and San Francisco for fourth place in the poll, with 34 percent of the people who responded saying they wanted to live in Tampa.
Denver, San Diego and Seattle ranked at the top of the list, according to the survey of about 2,200 adults. Detroit, Cleveland and Cincinnati were at the bottom.
Respondents in about 30 metropolitan areas were asked several dozen questions about what they liked about their own communities and where they would like to live.
