ODESSA - A 23-year-old Odessa woman was arrested Tuesday, accused of leaving an infant in the care of her roommates for more than 20 hours without diapers or food in January.
Andrea Elliot Vaughan of 13829 Vacation Lane was arrested on charges of child neglect and failure to appear in court on a petty theft case.
Deputies say that on Jan. 24, Vaughan and Iran Dewayne Munn, 34, left a 5-month-old baby at their home without proper supplies and care, affecting the child's well-being. The baby had not seen a health care provider since it was born in July, according to the report.
The couple have a child together, but sheriff's officials won't comment on whether that child is the one left behind. Deputies were at the home on Jan. 25 investigating a report of domestic violence when they found the infant.
Witnesses told deputies that Munn became upset when Vaughan woke him up and backhanded her across the face, causing injuries.
Munn was arrested in connection with the case that day and is in jail in New Port Richey, charged with child neglect and domestic violence. Bail is set $1,500.
He has denied hitting Vaughan, said sheriff's office spokesman Kevin Doll.
Vaughan was arrested Tuesday at Community Hospital in New Port Richey, but Doll wouldn't comment on why she was there.
She is in jail in Land O' Lakes. Bail is set at $8,013.
The baby has been removed from the home, Doll said.
