LAND O' LAKES - Mitchell golfer Matt Ross has been invited to attend The Sports Club of Tampa Bay's 48th annual sports banquet. Ross, an autistic golfer, is a finalist along with three other Tampa Bay area athletes for the Extra Effort Award.
"I've been watching it for years on TV," said his mother, Susan Ross. "It's the elite of the elite. I mean, it's just like wow."
The event, set for Feb. 13, will be broadcast live on Bright House Sports Network.
The annual banquet is a fundraiser to support the Boys & Girls Clubs of Tampa Bay, in addition to recognizing local amateur and professional athletes.
Awards handed out during the event include MVP honors for the Tampa Bay Bucs, Lightning and Rays. Awards for amateur athletes include the Outstanding Male and Female Amateur Athlete awards and Outstanding Male and Female Amateur Team awards. Also honored at the banquet are inductees into the Tampa Sports Hall of Fame.
The event airs at 8:30 p.m.
