2 New Macy's Offices
Macy's will open two small district offices in Clearwater as part of a major restructuring of its national operations.
The Cincinnati-based department store chain announced this week that it will lay off about 7,000 employees, including about 600 who work at its Miami district office. The company will break up many of its merchandising functions into 49 small districts nationwide, Macy's spokesman Jim Sluzewski said. By May, it expects to open two small offices in its existing credit and customer service facility on 34th Street North in Clearwater, which already employs about 1,200 people. The two offices combined will add 46 people, most or all of whom will be employees laid off in the restructuring, Sluzewski said.
Insurer Narrowing Medicaid
The largest provider in Florida's Medicaid pilot program says it will no longer offer coverage in Broward and Duval counties.
Citing the state's bleak economy and dropping reimbursement rates, Tampa-based WellCare told the state's Agency for Health Care and Administration on Wednesday that it is pulling out of Broward and Duval on May 1.
Wells Fargo Cancels Junket
Wells Fargo & Co. is likely on the hook for hefty cancellation fees after abruptly scrapping its upcoming retreats to Las Vegas casinos after admonishments by lawmakers and investigators. The company, which received $25 billion in taxpayer bailout money and recently announced a $2.3 billion loss for the last quarter of 2008, had booked 12 nights at two of the most expensive hotels in Las Vegas for events that included a four-day employee sales conference.
Ice Creams Recalled
Unilever United States Inc. said Wednesday that it will voluntarily recall Breyers Tin Roof Sundae ice cream products because they may contain peanuts that may be contaminated with salmonella. Products with UPC codes 77567 26462 and 77567 26462 are affected.
Publix Super Markets is voluntarily recalling its Publix Premium Peanut Brittle No Sugar Added Light Ice Cream for the same reason. The UPC number is 41415-27343.
The actions follow hundreds of other recalls of food products with peanut paste made at a south Georgia factory.
