SEMINOLE - Dixie Hollins defended its championship in the Class 2A-District 9 wrestling meet Wednesday. The Rebels had 208 points for the victory. Osceola took the runner-up spot with 161.5. Northeast was third with 129.5. The host Warhawks placed fourth with 119.0.

The Rebels qualified 12 wrestlers for next week's regional competition at Punta Gorda. Five of the nine Dixie Hollins wrestlers who made it to the championship round were winners. Eight schools took part in the daylong event which had 92 wrestlers in 14 weight classes. The top four finishers advanced to the regionals. Osceola qualified 10 wrestlers and Seminole and Northeast each had nine. Osceola and Dixie Hollins met four times in the title round with the Warriors taking three.
Sophomore Jordan McKenzie won the 103-pound class for Dixie Hollins with a pin of Willie Armstrong of Gibbs. It was McKenzie's second straight district title and the win gave him a 30-2 record for the season.

"It was tougher than I thought it would be," said McKenzie. "He is really a tough kid."

Rebel coach Edwin Bryant said, "It is never easy and we are pleased with the back-to-back district championships. We really want to help the kids reach their goals."
