Victim Identified In Apartment Complex Slaying

TAMPA - Deputies are searching for the suspect in a fatal shooting this morning at an apartment complex.
Witnesses said the victim, Kendrick Matthews, 37, of 3811 Arlington Ave. in Tampa, drove to Rivertree Landing Apartments at Sligh Avenue and 56th Street about 4:50 a.m., according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.
He was confronted by the suspect while still in his vehicle. The two men exchanged words and the victim got out of his vehicle.
Witnesses reported hearing shots and saw the suspect flee from the apartment complex over a fence, the sheriff's office said.
The victim died at the scene. His name is being withheld until relatives are notified.
