Spin a tale, win a bike.
The third annual Tampa BayCycle "Words for Wheels" contest is accepting essays through Feb. 20 from people who rely on two wheels as a main source of transportation.
Participants are asked to share in a 100-word essay how winning a bike could change their lives, says Karen Kress, director of transportation and planning, Tampa Downtown Partnership and co-founder of Tampa BayCycle.
Two winners will each receive a bicycle, light, helmet and lock. The winner will be announced March 1, the start of Florida Bike Month. Residents of Hillsborough, Pinellas, Citrus, Pasco and Hernando counties are eligible.
Entries can be submitted online at www.TampaBayCycle.com, or by mail to: Words for Wheels, 601 N. Ashley Drive, Suite 1100, Tampa FL 33602.
During March, Tampa BayCycle is asking commuters of all abilities and ages to cycle to work, school or play. More than 1,150 people participated in the program last year.
Tampa BayCycle is a consortium of the New North Transportation Alliance and the Tampa Downtown Partnership and is supported by the Florida Department of Transportation.
