Stress can sometimes magnify feelings of loss or loneliness.
Losses can include the loss of a job, separation or divorce, the death of a loved one or some other emotional loss.
The feelings can be more painful during holidays or near the anniversary of a loss, says Jeff Herring, an Atlanta marriage and family therapist who runs www.secretsofgreatrelationships.com.
He offers some suggestions for coping with these blues:
•Help others. Volunteer to serve a meal, donate clothes or food, etc.
•Give yourself adequate time to grieve.
•In some way, honor the person who was lost.
•Be sure to comfort yourself with friends and family.
