WEST PALM BEACH - Authorities have arrested a former employee of a Best Buy store in West Palm Beach for allegedly stealing credit card numbers of some 4,000 customers.
Federal authorities said 22-year-old Brittany Johnson was a cashier at the store and would use a card reader to copy the numbers. She said she made $17 per card, totaling about $1,000.
She also told federal authorities that 28-year-old Marius Harden approached her about the scheme. He would then resell the numbers to third parties for hundreds of dollars.
Both Harden and Johnson were arrested last month and face several charges.
Best Buy released a statement Friday saying company officials were reviewing the internal system to minimize such incidents in the future.
