What To Do This Month
•Prune rose bushes (not climbers). Cut back to healthy branches and remove weak stems. Remove all but three to five healthy canes, and cut these back a third to a half.
•Remove dead and damaged lawn turf and weedy patches; replace with plugs, sod or seed.
•Mid-February is the time to sprinkle lawns with pre-emergence herbicides to prevent grassy weeds.
What To Plant This Week
•If you plan a harvest of tomatoes in the spring, don't wait a day longer to start seeds for transplanting outdoors in mid-March. Make sure you have a sunny spot for them. Other warm-season veggies to plan for: peppers, eggplant, beans, squash and cucumbers. Seedlings should be ready for transplanting in four to six weeks.
