TAMPA - The grand prize winner of Saturday's Gasparilla Parade of the Pirates depicted one of history's most catastrophic maritime disasters.
The Krewe of Molly Brown took top honors for a float designed to look like the Titanic sinking, said Victor Leavengood, spokesman for the parade judges.
Two judges not associated with any krewes made the selections.
Other winners include:
- Best Green Float: the Anheuser-Busch Clydesdale horses, which featured people cleaning up after the horses as it meandered through the parade route.
- Best General Commercial Float: the Little Everglades Steeple Chase, which depicts the horse races held every March in Dade City.
- Best National Commercial Float: Southwest Airlines, which was the official sponsor of the Gasparilla Pirate Fest.
- Best Krewe Floats: a tie between the Grace O'Malley Krewe and the Nautilus Krewe.
- Best Association Float: the International Independent Showmen's Association, a nonprofit group of people in the outdoor amusement industry, which includes carnivals and fairs.
